Asia Argento was born in Rome, Italy, into a family of actors and filmmakers. Both professions she herself has taken up. Sogni e bisogni, directed by Sergio Citti and starring Asia Argento, at nine, was her very first film. Asia began directing in 1994 when she made two short films: Prospettive (1996), an account of her father's life as well as Abel/Asia (1998) Abel/Asia, a feature about cult filmmaker Abel Ferrara. The latter was awarded an award at the Rome Film Festival. Asia began her directorial debut as a feature-length film in 1999, with Scarlet Diva (2000). She was also the main actor, as well as the writer of the script. The film was made available all over the world in May 2000.
