Asia Argento was born in Rome, Italy, into a family of actors and filmmakers. Both professions she herself has taken up. Sogni e bisogni, directed by Sergio Citti and starring Asia Argento, at nine, was her very first film. In 1995, she acted alongside Michel Piccoli in Peter Del Monte's Traveling Companion , which again brought her a David di Donatello as well as an award called a Grolla oro. Asia began directing in 1994 when she made two short films: Prospettive (1996), an account of her father's life as well as Abel/Asia (1998) Abel/Asia, a feature about cult filmmaker Abel Ferrara. The latter was awarded an award at the Rome Film Festival. Asia began her directorial debut as a feature-length film in 1999, with Scarlet Diva (2000). She was also the main actor, as well as the writer of the script. The film was made available all over the world in May 2000. The film was released on Brooklyn, New York it received an award from the Williamsburg film festival. Anna Lou, her first child, was born in 2001. She directed a number of music videos. The year 2002 saw Asia appear as Jean-Marc Barr's co-star The Red Siren (Olivier Megaton) and Vin Diesel was the star of Rob Cohen's thriller action The Action. Asia also has a selection of short stories which have appeared in prestigious magazines.
